
Having recently completed a
PhD thesis in Computer Science at Princeton, I am... well really glad to be done. As much as I dreaded writing the thing pretty much every step of the way, it was surprisingly satisfying and relief-inducing to finish. While visiting one of my committee members, Andrew Appel, via his
homepage, I stumbled upon a recent article by PAW (Princeton Alumni Weekly, a um weekly publication for uh Princeton alums) that provided a ranked list of the
25 most influential Princeton alumni of all times. <-- Check it out. Alan Turing (pictured), the patron saint of computers and computists, rang in at #2 -- between Presidents James Madison and "Woody Woo" Wilson. Amazingly, only one woman, Wendy Kopp (#15), made the panel-selected list. #25 is a tie. If I were on the panel, I might have preferred to just do the top 24...
